Mayor Celebrates 50th Anniversary and names NYC entertainment legends as Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Ambassadors

50 Years of Magic

On June 8, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin launched new initiatives to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting. During a kickoff event at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, the Mayor announced renowned New York City entertainment leaders as MOME Ambassadors, including Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, John Leguizamo, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. Over the next 12 months, MOME's Ambassadors will serve as representatives of NYC's booming media and entertainment industries, promoting the contributions of artists, entertainers, and professionals to the City's cultural identity and thriving creative economy.

Congratulations to Graduates of the 4th Strategic Steps for Growth Class!

Strategic Steps for Growth

On June 15, 12 small business owners celebrated the completion of an intensive 9-month management training program for media and entertainment companies who are ready to expand their businesses. The 12 classroom sessions, led by Al Lieberman, Clinical Professor of Marketing Entrepreneurship and Innovation, NYU Stern School of Business, followed the award-winning Interise™ curriculum. Along with peer sessions and one-on-one mentorship, each owner developed a 3-Year plan for growth. The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and NYC Small Business Services will continue to support the implementation of these plans over the next 3 years. Launched in 2012, this program has now graduated 69 media & entertainment business owners. It is a partnership between the the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, NYC Department of Small Business Services, and the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business (NYU Stern).

Congratulations to Cycle 44 of the Made in NY PA Training Program!

On May 27, 15 New Yorkers completed the Made in NY PA Training Program, taking the next step towards careers in NYC's film and TV sector. To date, the Made in NY PA Training Program has prepared 634 previously unemployed and low-income New Yorkers for entry-level jobs as Production in this booming industry.

Broadway in the Boros: Staten Island
MOME's 'Broadway in the Boros' initiative kicks off this Friday, June 24 with a lunchtime performance on Staten Island! Members of the current Broadway cast and orchestras of hit TONY Award-nominated shows She Loves Me and Fiddler on the Roof will perform musical vignettes in a festive, open-air setting. This event is free and open to the public.

Join the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and ESPN Films for a special screening of the newest 30 for 30 film, "Doc and Darryl," directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. Q&A moderated by the New York Times Sports of the Times columnist Michael Powell to follow the screening with WNYC Radio host Brian Lehrer, co-director Bonfiglio, producer Kelsey Field and Vice President and Executive Producer of ESPN Films and Original Content John Dahl. Other special guests to be announced.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical Celebrates 1,000th Performance
Carole King celebration
On June 15, Beautiful celebrated its 1,000th Broadway performance. In honor of the milestone, MOME Commissioner Julie Menin joined Carole King and the Beautiful cast to issue a Mayoral proclamation and cut a celebratory cake.
