City Installs Barriers At Pennsylvania Fountain Landfill

DATE:Friday, March 26, 1999
TIME:11:00 AM
LOCATION:Pennsylvania Fountain Landfill
Pennsylvania Avenue
Brooklyn, NY
PARTICIPANTS:DEP Commissioner Joel A. Miele Sr., P.E.
DEP First Deputy Commissioner Diana Chapin, Ph.D.
DOT Commissioner Wilbur L. Chapman
DOT First Deputy Commissioner Anthony Fasulo

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Department of Transportation (DOT) have installed Jersey Barriers at the Pennsylvania Fountain Landfill. The final link of the barrier, which runs along the fence surrounding the Landfill, will be set in place during this photo opportunity.

This cooperative effort addresses neighbors' complaints that vandals are creating a disturbance to the Starett City community by repeatedly cutting the fence of the Landfill and riding motor bikes on the property. The placement of the Jersey Barriers in front of the Landfill's fence will impede access to the site and thwart trespassers.
