"I witnessed firsthand the devastation that Hurricane Georges wreaked upon Puerto Rico," Mayor Giuliani said. "The bricks and mortar of the Palmas Academy were not spared, but through their resilience and determination, its students have demonstrated that its spirit is alive and well. I am proud to welcome this intrepid group to New York City."
The music to "Questionable Quest" was composed by 12 year-old Palmas student William Fox. The cast ranges in ages, from 8 to 15. Proceeds from the performances, which will run through this weekend, will pay for the reconstruction of the school. "Relatively Speaking," another musical performed by Palmas students raised $100,000 for the same purpose.
The Palmas Academy was founded in 1992 by parents who wanted to create a learning environment that combined high academic standards with creative expression. Located in Humaca o, Puerto Rico, the Palmas Academy has earned an international reputation as a leader in arts education. The school's unique curriculum allows its students to gain confidence in their creative abilities while achieving success in traditional academic subjects. The academy currently enrolls 367 students from around the world, from pre-kindergarten through the tenth grade.
