MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES THE CENTRAL PARK CONSERVANCY'S CONTRIBUTION OF $10,000 IN REWARD MONEY FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO AN ARREST IN THE CENTRAL PARK ASSAULT CASE

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that the Central Park Conservancy has donated an additional $10,000 for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the brutal assault of a woman in Central Park on June 4, 1996. This brings the total reward amount to $21,000. The Mayor was joined by Parks Commissioner Henry Stern and the Conservancy's President and Central Park Administrator Karen Putnam.

Mayor Giuliani encouraged anyone with information to call the Police Department's crime hotline number at 1-800-577-TIPS (in Spanish: 1-800-57-PISTA). All calls will be kept strictly confidential.

The Police Department has released a composite sketch of a male who is wanted for questioning in the assault of the female victim, which occurred on Tuesday, June 4, 1996 at approximately 4:08 p.m. at the West Drive and 81st St.

The description of the male wanted for questioning is as follows:

Male Black/Hispanic Light Skinned
5'6" - 5'10"
Short Crew Cut
Clean Shaven
140-160 Lbs.
Medium Build
Wearing a white short sleeve shirt with a 1" blue or gray stripe
18-25 years old
The Central Park Conservancy is a non-profit organization that administers Central Park in partnership with the City. The group was founded in 1980 and has raised $140 million this year. The chairman of the organization is Ira M. Millstein.

The Conservancy's donation has raised the total reward to $21,000. On Wednesday, the Mayor authorized a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the attack. Those who use the 1-800-577-TIPS hotline receive an added $1,000.
