MAYOR GIULIANI ESTABLISHES FUND FOR THE CENTRAL PARK VICTIM

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced the establishment of the Friends of the Pianist fund to help defray the cost of medical care that the family of the brutal Central Park attack victim will continue to bear. The victim, a 32 year-old pianist and piano teacher, was attacked and beaten in the Park on June 4, 1996. She has been in a coma since the attack.

"New Yorkers and people across the nation have been moved by this woman's courageous struggle," said Mayor Giuliani. "The outpouring of cards, flowers and good wishes from across the nation has greatly lifted the spirits of the family. For those who have expressed deep sorrow for this family and have asked for a way to contribute, the Friends of the Pianist fund gives all New Yorkers the opportunity to help with the tremendous medical expenses the family is facing."

Anyone wishing to contribute to this fund is asked to send a check or money order made out to Friends of the Pianist to the following address:

The Mayor's Community Assistance Unit
51 Chambers St., Room 630
New York, NY 10007
Please do not send cash. The Friends of the Pianist fund is the only official fund recognized by the victim's family. For more information, call the Mayor's Community Assistance Unit at (212) 788-7453.
