MAYOR HONORS SANITATION WORKER AND GOOD WILL AMBASSADOR STANDISH BENTON

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today honored Standish Benton, a seven-year veteran of the Sanitation Department for his outreach to New Yorkers and visitors, for his commitment to his job and for his love of New York City.

"As we celebrate Labor Day this week, Standish Benton stands out as a role model for all City employees," said Mayor Giuliani. "As he diligently works his route in lower Manhattan -- keeping the streets of New York clean, swept and plowed -- he shares his love of our great City with everyone he meets. Standish takes time to give directions, say hello, point out historic sights and be just plain friendly. He is a true good will ambassador and represents the true spirit of New York City."

Since 1990, Mr. Benton has been assigned to Manhattan District 1, which covers lower Manhattan from the Battery to Chambers Street. He is 47 years old and lives with his wife in Manhattan.
