Mayor's Press Office Statement Regarding Review of DEP Facilities.
"The United States Attorney in Manhattan and other Federal authorities are reviewing allegations of mercury and PCB contaminants within a building managed by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) near the Kensico Reservoir, a building commonly known as Shaft 18.
The Federal government confirms that there is no reason to question the safety of the New York water supply. The concern with possible contaminants is localized to Shaft 18. DEP does not believe there is any hazard to the people working within the building, and certainly no hazard to the surrounding community.
The City is cooperating fully with the United States Attorney's review."
