"Fortunately New York City was spared from much of the destruction and devastation of Hurricane Floyd that we have witnessed in New York State, New Jersey and North Carolina," said Mayor Giuliani. "Unfortunately, the severe flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd has left thousands of people in New Jersey and North Carolina homeless, some losing everything they own, and some losing loved ones. New Yorkers have always been quick to come to the aid of those in need and I know that New Yorkers will open their hearts and help the people of New York, New Jersey and North Carolina recover from this disaster. I encourage all New Yorkers to donate bottled water and non-perishable food at their local Fire Department or Police Precinct to aid the victims of Hurricane Floyd."
