Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, celebrating the Mets' first playoff appearance in 11 years, set wagering terms with Mayor Skip Rimsza, of Phoenix, Arizona, on the outcome of the National League Divisional Playoff Series between the New York Mets and the Arizona, Diamondbacks which begins this evening in Phoenix.
If the Mets win, Mayor Rimsza owes Mayor Giuliani a saguaro cactus, an assortment of Senator Goldwater salsa and chili, a case of 4 Peaks microbrew and agrees to wear a Mets baseball cap in public. Should the Diamondbacks win, Mayor Giuliani will send Mayor Rimsza a cheesecake from Brother's, a New York-size portion of Nathan's Hot Dogs, a dozen cannolis and a case of Brooklyn Lager beer. Mayor Giuliani also agrees to wear a Diamondbacks baseball cap in public.
"The Amazin' Mets have done it again," declared Mayor Giuliani. "After 11 long years the Mets are on their way to make their first World Series appearance since 1986. All New Yorkers are excited because this is the first time the New York Mets and Yankees have ever been in the playoffs at the same time, which could only mean one thing, a Subway Series. I'm looking forward to watching the Mets beat the Diamondbacks and enjoying my chips and salsa while watching the Mets battle it out with the Yankees in the World Series."
