Impacts of Federal Government Shutdown

As a result of the partial shutdown of the Federal Government on Tuesday, October 1, various federal agency offices and programs are affected. Various national parks, museums, and monuments are closed. The Statue of Liberty is open.

There are delays in processing of passport and visa applications.

City and State agencies are not affected by this shutdown. New York City Public School and DMV offices are open.

The shutdown does NOT affect the payment of:

  • SNAP
  • Cash assistance
  • Unemployment
  • Social Security
  • Medicare
  • Medicaid

The U.S. Mail service will deliver mail and post offices will open during their normal hours.

Federal Courts will be open and Amtrak is operating.

It is unknown how long the shutdown will last.
