Bird or Avian Flu (H7N9)

H7N9 is an influenza virus sometimes found in birds. It does not typically infect humans.

In March 2013, China reported human and bird infections with a new strain of H7N9 that is very different from previously seen viruses. No cases of human or bird infection with this H7N9 virus have been detected in New York City or anywhere else in the United States.

At this time, the risk to people in the United States is considered low. The following entities are getting prepared in the event that the virus reaches the United States:

  • Healthcare organizations
  • Government agencies
  • Private sector
