The City accepts requests for the removal of collections bins from a public street or area.
It is illegal to place publicly accessible collection bins for the drop-off of clothing or other items on New York City property, property maintained by New York City, or on any public sidewalk or roadway.
Reported collection bins are tagged for removal. Once a tag is placed on the bin, it may take up to 45 days to be removed. By law, the Department of Sanitation must give at least 30 days’ notice to the owner of the bin before it can be removed. Bins can only be removed after the owner has been notified.
