The City accepts requests for the removal of collections bins from a public street or area.
It is illegal to place publicly accessible collection bins for the drop-off of clothing or other items on New York City property, property maintained by New York City, or on any public sidewalk or roadway.
Reported collection bins on public property will be removed as soon as possible (typically within two weeks). The Department of Sanitation notifies the owner and allows the owner 30 days to remove the bin. The owner may be responsible for storage charges, removal charges, and civil penalties.
