Fatherhood Support

The Mayor's Fatherhood Initiative, which involves multiple agencies, launched in 2010 with four goals:

  • Remove barriers that fathers may face in interacting with City agencies
  • Make all City agencies as "father friendly" as possible
  • Assist in the creation of memorable moments between fathers and their children
  • Support fathers as they increase their capacity to be good dads

As part of the initiative, NYC DADS provides public outreach and hosts free events to help dads spend quality time with their children.

The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Fatherhood Initiative offers classes and programs for three groups of fathers:

  • Young fathers ages 16 to 24
  • Older fathers over the age of 24
  • Ex-offenders or fathers who have been in jail.

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) NYC Fatherhood Initiative provides a healthy atmosphere where fathers and their children can develop strong and lasting relationships. Programs take place on NYCHA property but are open to everyone.
