Home Heating Oil Company Complaint

You can make a complaint about contract disputes between home heating oil businesses and customers. Complaints include home heating oil businesses imposing illegal credit terms, issuing improper contracts and receipts, or shortchanging the amount of oil dispensed.

Consumer protection laws prohibit home heating oil dealers from imposing credit terms more strict than those in effect during the 1978 to 1979 heating season, unless the dealer can show its supplier or creditor has imposed similar restrictions.

Home heating oil delivery trucks are inspected to confirm the accuracy of the truck's meters and air eliminator devices, to make sure that consumers are not charged for oil they did not receive.

After an inspection, the City places an official seal on the meter and a sticker on the back of the truck to indicate it passed inspection. The City accepts reports about missing or expired stickers.
