Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Novel Coronavirus

An outbreak of Novel Coronavirus, also known as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, has been occurring in the Middle East and has mostly affected:

• Saudi Arabia
• Jordan
• Qatar
• United Arab Emirates

Only two cases have occurred in the United States, one in Indiana and one in Florida.

New York City's general population is currently at no risk of becoming infected with the virus that causes MERS.

If you have traveled to Saudi Arabia or other countries in the Middle East and develop a fever with respiratory symptoms within 14 days of returning to the United States, you should contact your healthcare provider and seek medical advice.
