Rechargeable Battery Recycling

It is illegal to put rechargeable batteries, including batteries from laptops, cell phones, and digital cameras, in your recycling or garbage. Instead, you should bring them to any store that sells rechargeable batteries. All New York City stores, with the exception of small food stores, must accept up to ten batteries of the same shape and size as they sell, no purchase necessary.

The State accepts reports of businesses that sell rechargeable batteries but do not accept them for recycling.
