Students in the City's public school system can sign up or be selected to get wake-up calls reminding them to get up for school through the WakeUp!NYC program. Calls are pre-recorded celebrity messages that are made on official school days and not on holidays, weekends or during the summer.
Students may be selected to receive these calls by school officials. Students and their parents may:
- Opt out of the program (it usually takes 24 hours for a number to be removed from the call list)
- Change the phone number that receives calls
The City's WakeUp!NYC program is part of the Mayor's "Every Student, Every Day" campaign to raise awareness about the importance of school attendance citywide.
