Snow or Ice on Roadway Removal

When it snows, the City launches a winter snow storm operation and follows an initial plan for clearing snow and ice from the highways, snow emergency streets, bus lanes, and other primary routes. As this initial phase is completed, the City moves forward to spread and plow all roadways as necessary. City streets may be spread with salt and calcium chloride and/or plowed to create a passable driving lane, but blacktop may not be visible.

The City does NOT clear access to automobiles, sidewalks, or driveways, even if the obstruction was caused by a City plow.

Snow is always plowed to the right side of the street because the same trucks must plow both one-way and two-way streets. Once the plows are mounted on trucks they cannot be shifted from one direction to the other.

When the City is engaged in a winter snow storm operation to clear snow or ice from roadways, it cannot respond to individual plowing or spreading requests. Your report of a snowy or icy roadway will be collected and used to provide an overview of storm situations.
