Residents and small businesses can apply online for health insurance through New York State of Health, the Official Health Plan Marketplace. This Marketplace was created under the Affordable Care Act and is operated by the State.
NY State of Health is the only place where eligible residents can get either public health insurance (Medicaid or Child Health Plus) or tax credits to lower their private health insurance costs. This is also where eligible small businesses must get insurance in order to claim a tax credit.
If you are under age 65, you must apply through NY State of Health online or by calling (855) 355-5777.
If you are age 65 and over, or on Medicare, or need Medicaid related to a disability, you should apply through HRA.
Once enrolled, you can choose from a group of private health insurance plans that fit your needs.
