Residents and small businesses can apply online for health insurance through New York State of Health. It is operated by New York State and is the Official Health Plan Marketplace. This Marketplace was created under the Affordable Care Act.
NY State of Health is the only place where eligible residents can get either public health insurance (Medicaid or Child Health Plus) or tax credits to lower their private health insurance costs. This is also where eligible small businesses must get insurance in order to claim a tax credit.
Effective January 1, 2014, consumers under age 65 must apply through NY State of Health at (855) 355-5777 or online.
Consumers who are age 65 and over; or who are on Medicare; or who need Medicaid related to a disability should apply through HRA.
Once enrolled, you can choose from a group of private health insurance plans that fit your needs.
