Cooking Oil and Grease Disposal Outreach Queens Pilot Program

The Department of Environmental Protection is conducting an outreach program in parts of Fresh Meadows, Kew Gardens, and Briarwood, Queens to inform residents about the proper disposal of used cooking oil and grease.

When poured down the drain, used cooking oil and grease can clog pipes in the home and in city sewers.  This can result in sewage backups that can cause damage to homes.

As part of the outreach effort, some customers may receive an automated phone call announcing that DEP outreach teams are in the area distributing information about the program.
