Infections Following Cosmetic Surgery in the Dominican Republic

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has been notified of a cluster of non tuberculosis skin infections following cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the Dominican Republic. Infections can spread and cause more severe illness. Anyone who had cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic since July 2013, and has developed a skin infection, stomach pain, or fever should contact their doctor immediately. If you do not have a regular doctor you should visit a hospital emergency room. Types of cosmetic surgery include liposuction, abdominalplasty (tummy tuck), and breast lifts or reductions.
