New Year's Holiday Information

Wednesday, December 31, is not an official holiday and all city government offices are open.

Garbage and recycling collections and mail delivery follow a normal schedule.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a normal schedule.

On Thursday, January 1, New Year's Day, all government offices are closed, including courts, and there is no mail delivery.

All public schools in the City are closed Wednesday, December 24, 2014, through Friday, January 2, 2015, for Winter Recess. Students return to school on Monday, January 5, 2015. DOE's Parent Support Hotline, will be closed Wednesday, December 31 and Thursday, January 1.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule, with service every 30 minutes from 7 AM to 11 PM.

Alternate side parking regulations are suspended. You do not have to pay the parking meter. No stopping, no standing and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect at any time or seven days a week.

There is no collection on New Year's Day.  If Thursday is your regular garbage, recycling, or organics day, place your items out after 4 PM on Thursday, January 1.
