Retailers are prohibited from selling cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, powdered tobacco, other tobacco products, or electronic cigarettes to customers under age 21. This law went into effect in May, 2014. These changes are included in the Sensible Tobacco Enforcement Local Law 94.
Updated signs were mailed to New York City licensed cigarette retail dealers prior to enforcement of this law which began on August 1, 2014. Newly licensed cigarette retail dealers will receive signs when they get their license.
