Hepatitis C Test

There is a test for Hepatitis C. The Health Department recommends a test for:

  • People born between 1945 and 1965
  • People who have ever injected or inhaled (snorted) drugs, hormones, steroids, silicon or cosmetics - even if it was once a long time ago
  • People who had a blood transfusion or organ transplant before 1992
  • People who are HIV-Positive
  • People who were born in, or had a blood transfusion or medical procedure in, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, or the former Soviet Republic
  • Children of Hepatitis C-positive mothers
  • People who got a tattoo or piercing  from anyone other than a licensed professional
  • People who have had abnormal liver tests or been told they have liver disease
  • People who have ever been on long-term dialysis
  • People who have been exposed to blood or stuck with a needle while working
  • People who have ever been incarcerated
  • Men who have sex with men
  • People who have sex with multiple partners.
