Inmate Property Pickup

If you were released from Rikers Island and still have personal items in storage, you may retrieve your property according to the following Department of Correction (DOC) guidelines:

  • If you entered DOC custody on December 1, 2014, or later, you have 30 days to pick up your property upon discharge.
  • If you entered DOC custody prior to December 1, 2014, you have 120 days to pick up your property upon discharge.

You can pick up your valuable property at the Samuel L. Perry Center 24 hours a day/7 days a week, without an appointment, subject to the 30 day/120 day guideline that applies to you. The Perry Center is located at 16-16 Hazen Street, East Elmhurst, NY. You can reach it using the Q100 bus.

For bulk (non-valuable) property, you must request a property pickup appointment by calling 311, subject to the 30 day/120 day guideline that applies to you. To schedule the pickup appointment, you need to provide your book and case number or New York State identification number (NYSID). You must make your request 3 business days before the date when you want to pick up your items. After the pickup date is scheduled, you will receive a confirmation number.

If you were an inmate at the Manhattan Detention Complex, Vernon C. Bain Center, or the Brooklyn Detention Complex, you may pick up your property at your facility without an appointment. It is recommended that you contact the facility before going, to be sure your property is still there.
