Multi-Agency Support for Hospitality (MASH)

One-on-One Help for Nightlife Businesses

Multi-Agency Support for Hospitality (MASH) is an interagency working group, led by the NYC Office of Nightlife (ONL) at the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), that provides nightlife and hospitality businesses (like bars, clubs, or restaurants) with one-on-one casework, personalized problem-solving, and referrals to available resources.

This working group includes SBS, the NYC Departments of Buildings (DOB), Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP), Fire (FDNY), Environmental Protection (DEP), and Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH); Con Edison; the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA); and several other city and state agencies.

MASH guides both opening and existing nightlife and hospitality businesses towards safety and compliance through education to help avoid common violations. This proactive approach aims to reduce the need for enforcement that may result in fines or even business closures. ONL is the central point of contact, offering recommendations on how to move forward, and follows up until the issue achieves resolution.

Additionally, these cases are important to identify systemic problems within the nightlife sector and inform future programs and initiatives of the Office of Nightlife, such as MEND NYC and NITE School.
