De Blasio Administration Announces Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 to Film in New York City This April

NEW YORK—Mayor Bill de Blasio and Media and Entertainment Commissioner Cynthia López today announced that Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will be filming in New York City beginning this April. The film is slated for release in theaters on June 3, 2016.
The film will spend an estimated $70 million in New York State and create jobs for New York City residents.
“From production assistants who work behind the cameras to textiles and lumber for set design to local restaurants to feed crew members, New York City knows how to host block-buster films,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We welcome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 to New York City, and look forward to the many jobs and tens of millions of dollars this will bring to our local economy.”

“We are thrilled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will call New York City home this spring, we look forward to what the Ninjas will be doing in NYC  we can only imagine what the filmmakers have in store,” said New York City Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment Commissioner Cynthia López.

“We are pleased to bring the Turtles back to New York for their next big screen adventure,” said Lee Rosenthal, President, Physical Production at Paramount Pictures. “Bustling and vibrant New York City is an idea backdrop for this exciting action-packed film.”

“New York City’s thriving film industry means substantial job creation, commerce, and small business support for the local economies that make our city hum,” said Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito. “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will bring tens of millions of dollars in revenue to New York City and invaluable  positive promotion. “We welcome back the Turtles to New York City -- and I'm sure our pizzerias will appreciate their continued patronage,” said Council Member Dan Garodnick. “There is no better way to project the character of this city than through television and film, and what's more New York than pizza-loving ninjas and a talking rat?”

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” is directed by David Green. Michael Bay is producing alongside his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick also producing. Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec are writing and will executive produce with Denis Stewart.

The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment consists of the Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, facilitating and supporting film and TV productions throughout the five boroughs, and NYC Media, the official TV and radio network, and media production entity of the City of New York. The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment works to foster new business relationships, strengthen partnerships and develop unique ways to address the ever-changing industry.

According to an independent study conducted by the Boston Consulting Group, the entertainment industry generates a direct annual spend of $7.1 billion, $400 million in tax revenue, and employs 130,000 New Yorkers.
