Statement From Mayor Bill de Blasio on MTA Capital Plan

October 28, 2015

“Earlier this month, the City made a historic $2.5 billion contribution to the MTA, while making sure funds stay in our transit system and giving NYC riders a stronger voice in prioritizing projects. This represents a new model of cooperation between the City and State in ensuring that New Yorkers have a reliable, effective, and safe transit system.

And we’re already seeing the results, with new NYC priorities now included in the plan.

In addition to billions of dollars of investment in core City priorities – such as thousands of new subway cars and buses, Second Avenue Subway Phase 2, Staten Island North Shore Bus Rapid Transit, and major signal improvements to address delays and overcrowding – the plan approved today includes a new $300 million in City projects we were proud to secure. That includes the Livonia Avenue-Junius Street Station Connector, vital station improvements across the system, a Utica Avenue line extension study, ADA access, and an infrastructure reserve to support the City’s growth and development efforts.

These investments ensure that almost every MTA transit priority we outlined in OneNYC can now move forward – representing a huge win for NYC riders across the five boroughs.”
