Gowanus IBID Feasibility Study
In 2015 Friends of Brooklyn Community Board 6 in partnership with the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) conducted a Needs Assessment Survey to determine the most important issues that will ensure a bright future for manufacturing in Gowanus.
The survey is part of the process to find out whether the formation of an Industrial Business Improvement District (IBID) might be an appropriate and beneficial course of action for the Gowanus area. An IBID is defined as a public-private partnership in which property and business owners elect to make a collective contribution to the maintenance, development, and promotion of their business district in accordance with their priorities. It is a tool that allows businesses to work together to advocate and organize for shared interests that support the industrial businesses in the neighborhood.
