Industry Code of Conduct

The Department of Buildings (DOB) strives to ensure the safe and lawful use of approximately one million buildings and properties in New York City by enforcing the City’s Building Code, among other laws.

To help foster integrity in the construction industry, DOB created this Code of Conduct specifically for industry professionals and others who conduct business with the Department. Professional Engineers (PE) and Registered Architects (RA), Licensees and Registrants, Code and Zoning Representatives, Property Owners and workers should use this as a guide when conducting business with DOB employees.

As the Department strives to facilitate safe and compliant development that supports our economy and revitalizes our neighborhoods, your obligation is to conduct business with the Department in a lawful, honest, and professional manner. Together our work maintains the vibrancy of New York City’s buildings and properties.

Read the Department’s Industry Code of Conduct.
