Pedestrian Plazas

Pedestrian plazas transform underutilized areas into safe, community-oriented public spaces. The Department of Transportation work with nonprofit organizations to design, manage and maintain the plaza areas.

Pedestrian plazas are permitted for special events through the Street Activity Permit Office. You may learn more about applying for these permits through our Plaza Event page. Discover the plazas available for permitting by clicking the boroughs below or apply for a permit now through E-Apply. Learn about plaza levels (i.e., A, B, C, and D).

Please note that from November 22, 2017 until January 3, 2018, various plazas in Midtown and Lower Manhattan will not be available for permitting. To learn more, please read our Holiday Embargo Memo or select plazas below to see their availability.
