Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law FAQs

Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law FAQs

Under New York City’s Earned Sick Time Act (Paid Sick Leave Law), which took effect on April 1, 2014, certain employers must allow sick leave, so employees can care for themselves or a family member.

NYC’s Paid Sick Leave Law was amended to include safe leave, which provides covered employees the right to use accrued safe and sick leave for the care and treatment of themselves or a family member and to seek assistance or take other safety measures if the employee or a family member may be the victim of any act or threat of domestic violence, unwanted sexual contact, stalking, or human trafficking. The amendments also expand the definition of family members. NYC’s Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law, as amended, took effect May 5, 2018.
