Building the City: Infrastructure

New York City has an extensive network of streets, water mains, and sewers. We build and upgrade this system, while also taking care of streets, retaining walls, pedestrian bridges, and plazas. Our client agencies—the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)—furnish the planning and funding for these projects. It’s our job to provide the highest standard of engineering design and construction management required for successful delivery.

“DDC’s infrastructure division plays an outsized role in helping the City function every day,” said DDC Commissioner Feniosky Peña-Mora. “Whether it’s replacing old water mains or constructing a new pedestrian plaza, its work affects every City resident, and requires a tremendous amount of coordination with our client agencies, and with utilities, residents, and neighborhood businesses. Though their work often goes largely unseen, the talented staff in DDC Infrastructure deserve great credit for making the City safer, more resilient, and able to provide outstanding services to its growing population and millions of visitors.”
