Intergenerational Work-Study Program

Intergenerational Work-Study Program

An elderly woman and a young woman

In collaboration with the New York City Department of Education, the New York City Department for the Aging places New York City high school students at senior centers, nursing homes, and home-care settings to provide companionship and needed services.

Students increase their understanding of aging, making New York City more age-friendly. They also earn academic credit while gaining the experience and skills needed to succeed in health care and other social services.

The Intergenerational Work-Study Program aims to help students stay focused, motivating them to graduate from high school and attend college.
