Food Service Establishment Ombuds Office

Local Law 89 of 2013 established the Food Service Establishment Ombuds Office at the NYC Health Department. The Office's mission is to assist food service establishment operators with concerns they may have about the inspection process.

The Ombuds office:

  • Receives questions, comments, complaints, and compliments with respect to any food service establishment inspection
  • Investigates complaints regarding the inspection process
  • Responds to questions about the inspection process
  • Makes recommendations as to how to improve the delivery of inspectional services based on complaint investigation results

To contact the Ombuds Office:

If you have a specific complaint or compliment about how your inspection was conducted, the inspection process or the behavior of an inspector, you may contact the Ombuds Office by calling (646) 632-6253 or sending an email to infobfscs@health.nyc.gov. You may also submit confidential feedback on inspections. The more information you provide, the better we may assist. The Health Department thanks you for bringing such matters to our attention and reminds you that the Ombuds office does not adjudicate Notices of Violation.
