Avian Influenza A H7N2 in Cats

On November 14, 2016, 45 cats in an Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) shelter in Manhattan tested positive for avian influenza. Most experienced mild illness and are expected to recover. One cat died, but was elderly and had underlying health issues.

Testing is available for people who worked at the Manhattan ACC shelter since November 12 or if they adopted a cat from the shelter since November 12 and the cat was sick prior to their flu-like illness. Testing is arranged through the Health Department Provider Access Line (PAL) at 1-866-692-3641.
