Organics Collection & Drop-Off for Residents

Organic waste, such as food waste, food-soiled paper, and yard waste, makes up 31 percent of NYC's residential and institutional waste stream. DSNY manages a number of programs to keep this material from ending up in landfills, and instead to put it to good use as compost.

Yard waste generated by landscapers cannot be set out for DSNY collection; landscapers must take this yard waste to a permitted composting facility.
