Tires, Scrap Tires and Tire Byproducts Permit

Permit Description

A permit is required to store tires, scrap tires and tire byproducts, except tires mounted on vehicles, in quantities exceeding:

  • Twenty-five hundred cubic feet (71 m3) of total volume of scrap tires or one thousand tires, whichever is less, either outdoors, or in buildings of noncombustible construction that are protected throughout by a sprinkler system.
  • Two hundred fifty cubic feet (7.1 m3) of total volume of scrap tires or one hundred tires, whichever is less, in buildings of combustible construction, or in buildings of noncombustible construction that are not protected throughout by a sprinkler system.

Cost of Permit

Store tires, scrap tires and tire byproducts

  • $70.00

There may be additional fees such as for air compressors utilized at the premises.

Inspection unit will review fees at time of inspection.

Permit Length

  • A FDNY inspector will visit the premise annually and perform an inspection prior to permit expiration

Application Requirements

  • Certificate of Occupancy or Department of Building approval.
  • Official business documentation, such as Tax ID, liability insurance.
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness:
    COF A-35: Operate and Maintain Air Compressors (*Required if air compressor operates over 100 psi)
