FDNY Adds 32 Names to Memorial Wall for Deaths Related to World Trade Illnesses

The FDNY added the names of 32 members who died of illnesses related to their work in the rescue and recovery effort at the World Trade Center to the FDNY World Trade Center Memorial Wall on Thursday, September 7, at 4 p.m. at FDNY Headquarters – 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn.  With the addition of these 32 names, the number of Department members who have succumbed to World Trade Center-related illnesses now stands at 159 individuals.

“The members we honor on our World Trade Center Memorial Wall worked tirelessly in support of the rescue and recovery efforts of the 343 heroes and thousands of innocent victims killed on September 11th,” said Commissioner Nigro. “The 32 members we remember this year were without question brave – they were dedicated and compassionate – and they performed their duties, selflessly and courageously.”

The inscription on the Memorial Wall, which was unveiled on September of 2011, reads:
“DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO BRAVELY SERVED THIS DEPARTMENT PROTECTING LIFE AND PROPERTY IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK IN THE RESCUE AND RECOVERY EFFORT AT MANHATTAN BOX 5-5-8087 WORLD TRADE CENTER”
