FDNY Holds Funeral Service For Battalion Chief Lawrence T. Stack

June 16, 2016 — 58-year old Battalion Chief was one of 343 FDNY Members Killed on September 11, 2001

Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro tomorrow will attend the funeral service for Battalion Chief Lawrence T. Stack at Saints Philip and James Roman Catholic Church, at 1 Carow Place, St. James, NY at 10 a.m.  Chief Stack was assigned to the Safety Battalion when he was killed as he responded to the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. 

Chief Stack served the Department for 33 years and was one of 343 FDNY members who made the Supreme Sacrifice on September 11th.  He joined the Department in 1968, first assigned to Ladder Company 107 and then Ladder Company 175 in Brooklyn.  In 1981, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Ladder Company 35 in Manhattan. Three years later, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to Division 7 in the Bronx and in 1990 he was promoted to Battalion Chief, working in Queens, the Bureau of Operations and the Safety Battalion.  Prior to joining FDNY, Chief Stack served in the United States Navy for six years, including a tour of duty in the Vietnam War.

Chief Stack is survived by his wife, Theresa; and his sons, Lieutenant Michael Stack of Ladder Company 176 (where his father once served), and Firefighter Brian Stack of Ladder Company 123.  Chief Stack’s father, Lawrence M. Stack was a 38-year veteran of the FDNY and his brother, Captain Dennis Stack served 26 years with FDNY.

A memorial service was held in his memory in December, 2001.
