Thursday: Coney Island Houses Basketball Court Dedication

NEW YORK—On Thursday, May 21, 2015, from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and City Council Member Mark Treyger, in partnership with the Carmelo Anthony Foundation (CAF) will dedicate the newly renovated basketball courts at Coney Island Houses 4 & 5. Basketball courts that had fallen into disrepair were repaved by NYCHA and painted by CAF, whom also installed new backboards for the community just in time for summer.  In addition to remarks and the ribbon cutting ceremony, basketballs will be provided for pick-up games and NYCHA will have information available for residents on Sandy Recovery, employment opportunities and digital services.

The Coney Island basketball refurbishment is one of a series committed for NYCHA communities supported by the Courts for Kids project with the Carmelo Anthony Foundation.  In 2013, NBA basketball star Carmelo Anthony helped dedicate newly renovated courts at the NYCHA development he grew up in at Red Hook Houses.
