Only certain types of speech are subject to government restrictions. The below is a narrowly-tailored disclaimer that balances the public's freedom of speech/expression with the NYPD's legitimate governmental interest in hiding, removing and/or deleting certain social media comments.[1]

The New York City Police Department ("NYPD") endorses the secure use of social media to enhance and support NYPD program goals and objectives as well as to facilitate interaction with the community. There is no endorsement, implied or otherwise, by the NYPD of any fan posts, commentary, links, or photos. Writers/fans/followers are fully responsible for the content that they submit. Opinions expressed by the writers/fans are not the opinions of the NYPD and/or the City of New York.

This social media site is intended to serve as a mechanism for communication between the public and the NYPD on the listed topics. Any comments submitted to the NYPD social media site are public records, and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to New York Public Officers Law § 87.

  • Contain proprietary information, intellectual property, and/or copyrighted or trademarked images or graphics that are posted without the approval of the owner.
