NYPD and Other Law Enforcement Agencies Announce Three Major Takedowns in Brooklyn

Yesterday the NYPD and other law enforcement partners made arrests in three different takedowns in Brooklyn, one firearms and two drug and gang related.

In the first case, three defendants, two in Virginia and one in Brooklyn were arrested yesterday for trafficking firearms from Virginia to New York. Between April of 2017 and May of 2018, members of the gun conspiracy used straw purchasers to acquire more than 40 firearms. Several firearms that were illegally acquired were recovered by law enforcement in the New York area. This case was worked jointly by NYPD detectives and ATF agents in New York and Virginia. The case is being prosecuted by the Eastern District of New York.

In the second case, 27 defendants were arrested and charged yesterday with selling powdered and crack cocaine, heroin and oxycodone pills in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. This case was investigated by NYPD detectives and prosecuted by the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office.

And in the third case, 15 members of a Brooklyn drug trafficking crew were arrested and charged with distributing crack cocaine and heroin from 2015 to May 2018. Several of the defendants are also charged with firearms-related offenses used in protecting the drug trafficking organization. The case was investigated jointly between the NYPD and ATF. The Southern District of New York is leading the prosecution.
