Influenza, more commonly referred to as the flu, is a respiratory infection that impacts thousands every year. Up to 49,000 people die from influenza each year and many people, even healthy people, become very ill. The fact is—no one wants the flu! A flu shot is the best means of prevention against this contagious virus. The City of New York wants to ensure that each and every municipal employee and their dependents have access to a free flu vaccination in an effort to enhance and maintain their health and wellbeing.
In 2014, the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations, in partnership with the municipal unions that represent the NYC workforce, launched its Flu Vaccination Campaign to maximize the number of employees vaccinated. The Campaign provides free flu vaccinations for all municipal employees and eligible dependents, pre-Medicare retirees and eligible dependents, as well as eligible dependents of Medicare retirees.

Flu vaccinations are not the only protections you’ll need to keep you healthy all year long. The Center for Disease Control recommends several vaccines that will keep you and your family’s health protected against disease.
