Aging/Social Services

Identify populations to be served. Determine level of services available and easy access to same. Request capital and expense budget items for service gaps.

Beautification  

Enhance appearance of community.

Consumer Affairs 

Make recommendations on items presented by Department of Consumer Affairs, NYS Liquor Authority, as well as any other matter that would come under consumer relations.

Cultural Affairs

To assist in the development and promotion of cultural resources within district; to educate residents and link organizations in district to cultural resources throughout the city; to ensure that the youth and elderly have access to these resources; to help locate and publicize funding for arts and cultural activities; to stimulate cultural tourism within the district.

Economic Development 

To identify needs of the established business communities and to assist new businesses locating in the district.

Environmental Protection/Sanitation

Makes recommendations on matters involving the Sanitation Department's service delivery; and issues involving air/water/noise as related to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Finance 

Submit annual capital and expense budget priorities for district. Prepare annual community board operating budget.

Historic

Preserve the history of the communities of Rego Park and Forest Hills including their origins and notable residents.

Housing 

To focus on public and private housing stock issues in district.

Laws/By-Laws 

Provide parliamentary procedure guidance. Interpret community board by-laws. Review and present proposed changes to by-laws.

Library 

Identify the users of the libraries and determine if their needs are being met. Initiate capital and expense items for local libraries.

Parks and Recreation

Review and make recommendations on all capital projects affecting parks and playgrounds. Initiate capital budget requests for capital projects or expense budget items for the improvement of facilities to maximize use by community residents.

Planning and Zoning 

Review and make recommendations on all land use matters which come under the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) as well as matters referred by the Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA). Initiate zoning change applications.

Public Relations

Promote the public image of the community board through use of all media.

Public Safety

Initiate capital and expense budget requests for Police and Fire/EMS Departments to enhance service in the district. Identify problems and seek remedy.

Public Transportation 

Reviews proposals to change public transportation service delivery and make recommendations.

Street Activity Permits

Review and make recommendations on Street Permit Applications for Street Fairs, Block Parties and Special Events to the Street Activity Permit Office of the Community Assistance Unit of the Mayor's Office. The Community Board has established SAP Guidelines for all such events.

Transportation 

Review and make recommendations on capital projects. Initiate capital budget requests. Recommend streets for repaving, street lighting improvements and traffic device and sign installations.

Youth/Education 

Identify the needs of schools in district as well as the needs of youth population.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

To help educate the general public on how to prepare in the event of an emergency.
