With DVS's Housing & Support Services innovative practices in place, we've taken great strides to reduce veteran homelessness and help NYC veterans and their families find safe, affordable housing.
- Ended chronic veteran homelessness - The federal government announced in December 2015 an end to chronic veteran homelessness in New York City, following a two-year effort by Mayor de Blasio to help veterans who have been homeless for a year or longer find a home. Read the press release
- Reduced veteran homelessness by 90%+ over 5 years - Nationwide, veteran homelessness has been reduced by 47% over the past 5 years. In New York City, it has been reduced by over 90%.
- Created innovative peer-to-peer and landlord outreach - DVS created an individualized approach to housing NYC veterans, with peer-to-peer support for veterans and dedicated liaisons for landlords.
