In October 2013, Allison Hope Liao was killed while crossing the street holding her grandmother's hand, in the crosswalk with the green light. She was struck by a driver making an aggressive left turn at the intersection of Main Street and Cherry Avenue in Flushing, Queens.
Since that time the Liao Family and members of Families for Safe Streets, have dedicated their time to making the streets safer in Ally’s memory. The Liao Family has helped develop a pledge for all drivers asking that they change their driving behavior.
The New York City Department of Transportation’s Office of Safety Education and Outreach has been bringing this pledge to high schools throughout the city as part of their “Behind the Wheel” classes. Please sign the pledge online here and read the whole pledge here.
