WATCH NOW: Winterizing Your Home

There's no time like the present to take steps to get your home ready for the winter months here in New York City. Check out the latest video on Winterizing Your Home from our DOB Docs series. We'll provide tips on ways to prepare your home for winter, keep your family warmer, and make your home more energy efficient, which helps the planet, and may save you money as well. Watch Now >>

Topics include:

  • Heat Retention
  • Pipe Safety
  • Fire Hazards
  • Heating Systems and Chimney Maintenance*
  • Safety and Sustainability

*Chimneys supporting gas and/or oil heating appliances can become blocked and cause flue gasses to be backed up into the living space. Flue gasses are hazardous to occupants and can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. DOB strongly recommends that building owners perform annual inspections of the clean out at the base of chimneys that support fuel-fired heating appliances.
