Special Event Construction Embargo in Midtown Manhattan

A Special Event Construction Embargo is in effect for NYPD Police Officer Jason Rivera's wake and funeral, affecting construction work in select areas of Midtown Manhattan.

The Department of Buildings recommends that building contractors and construction professionals in the area should also refrain from any exterior building construction and construction-related deliveries during this time. They should be aware that delivery and construction vehicles, such as concrete truck deliveries, heading to the area may be disrupted during this time period.

This embargo is in effect starting Thursday, January 27th at 12:01 AM through Friday, January 28th at 11:59 PM.

More information about the embargo can be found here.

Boiler and Elevator Inspection Updates on DOB NOW: Safety

DOB NOW: Safety has been updated for the key changes that went into effect this week for boiler and elevator inspection reports.

Included are procedural changes to annual inspection and test report requirements for elevators and boilers that were made in the 2022 NYC Construction Codes (Local Law 126 of 2021), and other improvements to make the reporting process more efficient for members of the industry performing these inspections.

Energy Efficiency Reports Filing Requirements

In New York City, almost two thirds of green house gas emissions come from buildings. To help track how the largest of these buildings are performing, Local Law 87 of 2009 requires buildings over 50,000 gross square feet to undergo periodic energy audits, and file an Energy Efficiency Report (EER) with the city every ten years.

As of December 31, 2021, the Department is no longer accepting EER submissions from property owners who owe unpaid penalties for prior violations, until those penalties are paid in full.

Closing the Door Saves Lives

FDNY and DOB urge all New Yorkers to always close the door behind them when escaping a fire. Closing the door helps to isolate fire and prevents smoke, heat and flames from spreading to hallways and stairs.

Importantly, keeping a fire contained helps prevent its spread and often will limit the damage it can do.

Visit FDNY's website to learn more about how you can stay safe and protect those around you during an emergency event.

DOB Publishes Data Set for LAAs

DOB collects and maintains a mountain of data, from work permit applications to inspection requests. For the benefit of all New Yorkers and to promote transparency, the Department is committed to publishing this data online. Most recently, we released a new dataset for Limited Alteration Applications (LAA) filed with DOB.

The dataset is updated daily and provides information about these LAA filings for plumbing work, fire suppression piping replacement and repairs, and oil burner installations that do not include construction work.
