Read Now: Deep Dive into NYC Construction Incidents 2019-2020

Today, DOB released a first of its kind Construction Safety Report that provides deep insights on construction safety trends in the five boroughs over the 2019 and 2020 calendar years and examines Department initiatives that led to declines in building construction-related incidents and injuries during that time.

The two-year report delves into Department data on enforcement actions, incidents, and inspections to provide a deeper look at the factors impacting construction safety in New York City. With an eye on preventing future incidents from occurring, the report puts forward a detailed analysis of the where, when, what, and how of construction-related fatalities and injuries taking place in the city.

Upcoming Deadlines: June 30, 2021

We're almost at the end of June, and with the end of the month comes several deadlines, including:

Any Local Law 97 Adjustments Applications for calendar years 2024-2029. Buildings with excess emissions at least 40% more than the building's 2024 limit due to special circumstance, pursuant to New York City Administrative Code Section 28-320.8, can submit an adjustment application through the June 30,2021 deadline. The filing fee for these applications is $2,450.

Buildings covered by Local Law 152 in Community Districts 1, 3, & 19 must complete mandatory certified gas piping inspections. To meet the inspection reporting requirement, building owners must submit to the Department a signed and sealed GPS2: Gas Piping System Periodic Inspection Certification via our online portal. Failure to file the Gas Piping System Periodic Inspection Certification by the corresponding deadline will result in a civil penalty of $10,000. More information on mandatory gas piping systems inspections can be found in our Frequently Asked Questions.

Finally, June 30 is the last day to request a no-penalty business sign, deck & retaining wall inspection. Our annual 60-day initiatives allow New Yorkers to call 311 to request a free, no-penalty visual inspection of any accessory business sign, deck, porch, or retaining wall on their property. These programs give homeowners and small business owners in the five boroughs the opportunity to ensure that these structures are in good structural condition with no visibly apparent violating conditions.
